FAQ

  • Multiple ink colors are possible, but each color requires its own printing round. The number of colors and passes will affect both the price and production timeline.

    My pricing sheet shows up to two colors, but more colors can be accommodated. If you’d like to add digital printing for other design components, those can be quoted separately.

  • Possibly! If you have a specific paper you'd like to use, send me the details first. Not every paper is suitable for letterpress, and I'll need to approve it before you send or purchase the stock.

  • We offer two shades of bright white and two shades of natural white by default. If you’re interested in letterpressing colored cardstock, we can accommodate that for an additional fee.

    *Default shades:
    1) Lettra: Fluorescent White & Pearl White (in both 110 lb and 220 lb)
    2) Savoy: Brilliant White & Natural White (in both 118 lb and 236 lb)

  • Debossing is when the text gets pushed INTO the paper while embossing is when the text gets pushed UP from the paper. Letterpress, by default, is all debossed and only needs a singular plate. Embossing requires two plates (male and female) to create that raised effect.

  • Yes! Blind debossing creates an impression in the paper without ink and can be combined with letterpress printing for certain projects.

    And yes, this counts as a printing round even though there’s no ink.

  • Production time varies depending on the size and complexity of your project and my current schedule, however most projects will be shipped out within 7-10 business days (or possibly even less!).

    If you have a specific deadline, please include it with your inquiry so I can confirm whether I can accommodate it. Rush fees can be applied if needed.

  • The short answer? Yes, but with an additional fee. Each print needs its own unique plate made, so even if you want to change a single word, the whole plate needs to be ordered and remade. Changes can be accommodated if the client is willing to pay for the new plate.

    If printing has already begun, you will need to pay for the cost of the whole service again as the final product has already been finished.

  • Print-for-hire does not include design or layout services. Small production adjustments may be necessary to prepare artwork for the press, but larger design changes will require an additional design fee, so if you’re not a designer, I’d recommend inquiring for a semi-custom or custom suite.

  • Yes! Print-for-hire is for clients who already have finished artwork and are looking to outsource the printing. I’ll quickly review your files before production and let you know if anything needs to be adjusted for letterpress.

    Any requests for design help or illustration will be denied. If you’re interested in having me design your stationery, please inquire for a custom quote via my semi-custom or custom pages.

  • Letterpress plates are best made with vectorized art, so having proficiency with Adobe Illustrator or Affinity would be ideal. With that said, you can create your design on Canva as long as you follow the file setup guidelines properly.

  • Print-ready vector artwork is preferred, such as AI, EPS, or PDF files.

    JPGs, PNGs, and the like will NOT be accepted as your final product will turn out blurry to do the nature of the platemaking process required to letterpress.

  • Yes and no. Letterpress ink is semi-transparent and NOT fully opaque, so if you wanted to letterpress white ink onto a black card, the white will appear very faintly and not give you your desired effect. However, you can do letterpress foil printing with white foil and get that opaque look. Note: foil letterpress is more expensive and the impression is not quite as deep as regular letterpress due to its process.

    Always remember that you can print pretty much anything as long as the text color is darker than the paper color. With that said, again, letterpress ink is semi-transparent, so the paper color may affect the final printed ink color due to color theory. Therefore, printing on white paper is best for the most accurate final result.

  • Once I receive your files and everything is ready to go, I will send over an invoice to you. I accept ACH, Zelle, card payments, and PayPal for payment processing. Full payment is required upfront, but I assure you that you will receive your product!

    Shipping costs will also be added onto your invoice on top of the printing quotes from my pricing page. Sales tax may also apply depending on where you live.

  • 1) Make sure all text and artwork is coverted to Outlines (if you’re using Illustrator or Affinity).

    2) Make sure all text and artwork is 100% K black (this is NOT #000000). This means manually changing all strokes and artwork to C: 0, M: 0, Y: 0, K: 100.

    3) Please make sure your cursive/script fonts aren’t spaced out with kerning… Cursive is meant to be together, NOT spaced out. Always double check your letter spacing!

    4) Make sure your lines are thick enough. They should at least be 0.3 pt thick to maintain integrity throughout the platemaking process.
